April Fools’ Bedlam (April 1-April 30, 2017)

April Fools’ Bedlam

April 1 – April 30, 2017

A Ridgefield Guild of Artists’ Members-Only Exhibition

This year’s Bedlam Show opens on April Fools’ Day. We want to encourage our members to have fun with this. You decide….is it quirky? or hilarious? or downright strange, or beautiful? All mediums are accepted and you, the artist, hang all the work. Start spring with a laugh – get some art out there & hang out with your RGA community.

Entry Fee: $10 per piece for as many as you want to enter, no limit!  The only limit is the size: 24 x 24 inches and smaller.

Easy Breezy instructions:

Come to the RGA receiving with your art on Friday, March 31 from 12 to 4, or Saturday, April 1 from 12- 4. Fill out an entry form and a wall tag for each piece, grab a hammer and nail and hang your art on the wall. That’s where the bedlam begins! No equipment is necessary – the Guild has lots of tools and stepladders.

Details:

  • Works must be no larger than 24” in either direction. Diptychs and triptychs will be measured in their total assembly, not as individual pieces and must not be larger than 24” in totality in either direction. They will also be sold as a unit and not as individual parts.
  • Works must be wired and ready to hang in a secure, professional manner.
  • The show is open only to RGA members. Memberships may be renewed during receiving.
  • New members will be accepted at receiving and will be eligible to enter the show. Membership is $55 and $30 for seniors and students per year. See rgoa.org membership page for all membership details.

  • Submit as many pieces as you like.
  • Sculpture/3 Dimensional art should be no bigger than 24” in any direction, as well. Bring your piece ready to be installed or placed, and please bring your own pedestal, if possible.
  • All work must stay on the wall for the entire run of the show.

6th Annual Ridgefield High School Exhibition at RGA

The 6th Annual Ridgefield High School Exhibition at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists

Wednesday, April 12 – Sunday, April 30RHS_Show

Opening reception Thursday, April 20th, 5:30 – 7 pm.

The Ridgefield Guild would like to congratulate all RHS students who submitted their artistic pieces to the 6th Annual RHS Exhibition. Participating in events like this is a great way to experience and be part of the local art scene.  This year we received a very nice mix of artwork that included collage, paintings, photographs, sculpture, digital work, pastel and drawings using pencil, colored pencil, ink, pen and charcoal. It is always a pleasure to view high school work as we, the jurors, find it to be expressive and experimental showing a depth and array of emotion and candor.

We are asking all accepted students to bring in two pieces. We are also awarding prizes, but will make the decision after the artwork is dropped off at the Guild. Cash Awards are for First and Second Place; Honorable Mentions will also be given. Notification of awards will be prior to the Artists’ Reception, which I hope everyone will attend with family and friends. There will be a member show, Bedlam, open downstairs to view also.

Please bring the following pieces to the Guild during the drop off times (see below)

Scarlett Ball– The Tree of Purity, The Essence of Life

Juried Member Show 2017 (May 13 – June 18, 2017)

2017 Juried Member Show (May 13 – June 18, 2017)

About the Exhibition
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists celebrates the artistic talent of member artists with our 7th annual Juried Member Show running May 13 through June 18. This exhibit gives member artists an opportunity to have their work viewed by our juror, Helen Kauder, Executive Director at Artspace New Haven in New Haven, CT. She will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. We encourage all our members to participate. All media, except giclée prints of paintings and drawings is welcome.

About The Juror

Helen Kauder is Executive Director of Artspace and co-founder of the City-Wide Open Studios festival. Before returning to Artspace in 2010, she served as Deputy Director of the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. Earlier, she was a Vice President at Citibank and the Director of University Licensing Programs at Yale University. She has been recognized for her long service to the art sector through Connecticut’s Office of the Arts Elizabeth Mahaffey award, and an Elm-Ivy award, Yale’s highest honor for town-gown bridge building. She has previously served on the Board of Artspace as Treasurer, and later Board Chair. She holds an MBA in Accounting/Finance from U Chicago and an SB in Economics from MIT.

Artspace is a visionary and dynamic non-profit organization championing emerging artists and building new audiences for contemporary art. It’s exhibition and commissioning programs (in the gallery, out of doors, and city-wide) encourage experimentation, discovery, and lively civic discourse, while fostering appreciation for the vital role that artists play in improving our community.
