Carrie Haddad
Established in 1991 as the first fine art gallery in Hudson, NY, Carrie Haddad Gallery represents professionally committed artists as well as emerging talent specializing in painting, sculpture, works on paper and a variety of techniques in photography. We also provide art consulting services to individual and corporate collectors. Our 3000 sq ft. exhibition space on Warren Street is conveniently located just two hours north of Manhattan. The exhibition schedule accommodates 6 group shows annually on the main floor, as well as a rotating selection of work from represented artists on the second floor. Carrie Haddad was a pioneer in establishing the arts community in Hudson. For the past three decades, the gallery has sustained its reputation as a contemporary art gallery committed to promoting local artists.
I was honored to have the opportunity to jury Ridgefield Guild of Artist’s 48 th Annual Exhibition! The range of work was truly fascinating to engage with. Each artist had something unique to bring to the table, so it was no easy task to narrow down 491 submissions down to 73! Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience.
I typically approach the jurying process by selecting the work that brings me the most joy. There wasn’t a theme for the show, so I had the freedom to simply choose my favorites – lucky me! Curating around a theme can, at times, be limiting, so I was thankful for the chance to appreciate the work for its technique, composition, artistic message, etc.
It wasn’t my intention, but the top three works are representational, with two being figurative. That’s perhaps what I’m drawn to these days. These works offered some subtle mystery and represented a deep engagement with both personal expression and the exploration of diverse visual languages. I sought to include other subjects, so I couldn’t help but include a peaceful landscape and intriguing textile-inspired sculpture as honorable mentions. I enjoyed the fragmented textures of the mixed media work and subtlety of the realistic landscape, each showcasing a unique intersection of
observation and imagination.
From the colorful patchwork of interconnected shapes to the contemplative, intimate portraits, each artwork challenges the boundaries of conventional representation. These pieces push us to explore the contrasts between the abstract and the representational, offering spaces for reflection, wonder, and connection.
This collection reflects a thoughtful dialogue between the artist and the world around them, where every texture, brushstroke, and compositional choice has been made with intention. The pieces explore themes of identity, memory, nature, and human presence, creating a cohesive yet multifaceted narrative for the viewer to unpack.
