For artists with some experience in painting, we will focus on exploration using acrylic paints and various other mixed media materials. Examine the ins and outs of abstract painting and experiment with mediums; drawing materials, collage, oil sticks, canvas, paper and other interesting products. Have fun exploring old and new materials. This class is a perfect way to let go, and discover new possibilities.
Bring to the class the materials that you use to create your work. Include any collage materials and different surfaces that you like to work on. I will also bring materials that I use and we can explore together.
Claudia Mengel has been studying, instructing, and making art for many years. She left her corporate career as Vice President of Creative Services at J.P. Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank in 1999 and began concentrating on her art full-time. An accomplished painter and printmaker whose work is in private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad, she exhibits at several Galleries and is a member of Silvermine Artist Guild and a member of the Center for Contemporary Printmaking.
The artist received her degree in printmaking from the Brainerd Art School at the State University of New York at Potsdam. She has continued her studies at the Art Students League in New York, the Silvermine Art Center, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking,as well as with private teachers. She has studied with Robert Reed, Professor of Art at Yale. She has also studied with Hugh O’Donnell, Professor of Art at Boston University, Constance Kiermaier, a prominent New England artist, Master Printer Marina Anacona, and Master Printer Anthony Kirk. She has completed two residencies at the Vermont Studio School.
