In this 6-week class students will learn the basics of acrylic painting with an emphasis towards abstraction.


Non-traditional tools, type of paint, basic color theory, creating texture and more will be covered through lecture, demo and hands on projects.

Painter Nash Hyon has had her work in numerous museum exhibitions and collected by both individuals and companies including the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Research. Her paintings in a range of media reflect her interest in process, materials and using visual art to express ideas about and concerns with our changing world. She has been sharing her insights, knowledge, and experiences with students for over 20 years.

Acrylic Painting for beginners Supply List

 We will go over all supplies during the first class, just in case keep your receipts, and there may be a few more items as the weeks progress. 

14 x 17 or larger mixed media pad
Regular printer copy paper
Acrylic paints-Liquitex basics are fine as well as other brands: Large White, black, primary red, primary blue, cadmium medium yellow, paynes gray, raw umber, naples yellow, hookers green
Liquitex Matte medium small
Pencil Paper palette pad
Plastic palette knife
Plastic bowls or cups
Black Saral transfer paper
Mixed size set of inexpensive brushes-round and flat, 1⁄4 – 1 inc Pocket guide to mixing colors 1 canvas boards, 9 x 12
14 x 17 stretched canvas
Some cotton rags, paper towels, painters tape
Small spray bottle for water
