Ages 8 and up.

In this class, we will work with the basics of cartooning and Animation to create characters, make them interact and place them in a setting. Creative freedom and imagination will be encouraged, so that each child can express their own ideas. Learning the technique will allow for a successful final project. Starting with learning the fundamentals of drawing the human and animal figures, we will learn to develop characters, by exaggerating features and distorting proportions. We will discuss giving a character a personality, humor and intention. Once we have created a character, we will discuss a short story line, and create dialogue for interaction between the characters. We will apply the basic concepts of classic Animation, such as walk and run sequences, exaggerated reactions and facial expressions. We will learn the basics of spacial drawing, learning one and two point perspective, different planes and depth. We will create a setting for our characters to live in. We will design a storyboard based on the short storyline that we created, and a comic strip that will feature each child’s creation.
