Create beautiful, one-of-a-kind silver jewelry in this 2 day hands-on workshop. You’ll shape and design real silver pieces (like earrings or pendants) using silver in a sculptable form. First developed in Japan in the 1990s, metal clay is a non-toxic material that can be shaped like traditional clay, then kiln-fired to create pure silver or bronze pieces. Our workshop will use silver clay.

In the first session, jewelry designer Barbara Kirby will guide you through the process of creating silver jewelry using metal clay. You’ll design, shape, texture, and refine each piece using just your hands and simple tools. Barbara will then take your sculpted pieces to her studio where she will fire the clay in her kiln, leaving behind pure silver. Barbara cleans and polishes your silver pieces in her studio.

In the second session, you will assemble your silver pieces into their final form.Barbara supplies all required hardware (ear wires, jump rings etc) for you to finish your silver jewelry.

All participants will leave with beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces — the kind you’d find in a gallery, but made by you! Everything is provided — just bring creativity and curiosity.

All levels welcome. Perfect for beginners, hobbyists, or anyone who loves hands-on creativity.

About Barbara Kirby: Barbara is a jewelry artist who handcrafts one-of-a-kind pieces in silver and bronze, using both traditional metalsmithing and modern metal clay techniques. She began designing jewelry in 2003 during a personal battle with breast cancer. What started as a creative outlet soon became a lifelong passion for making original, handcrafted studio art jewelry. Barbara studied metalsmithing and metal clay at the Westchester Arts Workshop in White Plains, NY, and continued her training at the Boca Raton Museum Art School, the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill (MA), and MetalWerx in Waltham, MA. She continues advanced study with renowned metal clay artist Terry Kovalcik.
