In this class, we will work on creating an average of 4 to 5 oil paintings of still natures. Using several settings placed around the studio, each student will chose a model to work on for the next two weeks. We will work on drawing and composition, understanding shadows and lights, middle tone, and then we will work on the technique of oil painting. Each student, depending on their progress and choice, will produce at least three paintings from this class. Supply List: Sketching book Bristol Board 19×24. Graphite pencils B, B2, B4 Soft Charcoal Compressed Charcoal 4 Canvases (suggested sizes): 16x 20, 18×24. You may choose other sizes that you would like to work on. Linseed oil Odorless Turpenoid Two small containers or jars for the oil and turpenoid. 

One palette Brushes in different sizes, small to large, choose round and flat.

Clean Cotton Cloth Absorbent kitchen paper

Leonor Dao Leonor is an artist based in Westport, CT. Born in Venezuela, she studied art from the age of four. She studied at the Universidad Andrés Bello in Caracas, where she was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Art. She taught art and Art History in Elementary and Middle Schools for four years. She came to New York in 1996 to study Fine Arts. She obtained a Degree in Fine Arts at Parson’s School of Design and a BFA in Animation from the School of Visual Arts, where she won the contest for the design of the Animation Dreams Exhibition, a yearly event held in SVA to showcase student work. During this time, she did an Internship at MTV Animation Studios. She has worked in illustration both for children’s books and other publications. She is a member of the Artists Collective of Westport, and exhibits her work locally. Also she leads a program of Art classes for adults with disabilities. Her work is the product of both imagination and observation. Leonor projects the world around her, but her interior landscape always come across in her work, introspective and whimsical.
