Throughout the course participants will be introduced to a variety of printmaking techniques by Anthony Kirk, a renowned Master Printer. Students will receive individualized attention to develop their own ideas and print projects utilizing the processes of monotype, etching and dry point. The class is open to all levels and no previous printmaking experience is required.

A lab fee of $35.00 for materials used plus printmaking paper at $3.00 per sheet is payable to the instructor.

We will be using inks that at the end of class can be cleaned up with detergent and water. No solvents are used, and the studio air is fume free.

Participants should bring their own brushes.

Anthony Kirk: For more than four decades Anthony Kirk has been involved in fine art intaglio and relief printmaking first as a student at Winchester and Chelsea Schools of Art in the United Kingdom, then as a lecturer, instructor and Master Printer in the US. From 1987 to 2000 Kirk was head of the etching department at Tyler Graphics where he collaborated with Frank Stella, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell and John Walker among others in the printing of their editions.

In his career as a Master Printer Kirk has witnessed the introduction of methods and materials which are non- toxic and make unnecessary the traditional solvents associated with printmaking. He has taught these innovative techniques at Boston University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the Hotchkiss School, Fine Art Work Center, Provincetown, Woodstock School of Art and Manhattan Graphics Center. Kirk has exhibited his own prints widely including Footprint International, The Royal Scottish Academy, and the 3rd International Print Biennale, Newcastle, England.
