Week 1 – June 24 – 28: Printmaking 101 and Beyond

Tony Kirk Adult and Teen Summer Programs 2024

What is printmaking, you ask?  It is the activity of making pictures or designs by printing them on plates or blocks. If you can push paint around with a brush then you can make unique one of a kind prints.  We will use Akua inks and water soluble crayons. All materials are non-toxic and dishwashing detergent is used for cleanup. Discover a new talent to express your creativity! This session is for beginner, intermediate and advanced artists.

Anthony Kirk: For more than four decades Anthony Kirk has been involved in fine art intaglio and relief printmaking first as a student at Winchester and Chelsea Schools of Art in the United Kingdom, then as a lecturer, instructor and Master Printer in the US. From 1987 to 2000 Kirk was head of the etching department at Tyler Graphics where he collaborated with Frank Stella, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell and John Walker among others in the printing of their editions.

In his career as a Master Printer Kirk has witnessed the introduction of methods and materials which are non- toxic and make unnecessary the traditional solvents associated with printmaking. He has taught these innovative techniques at Boston University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the Hotchkiss School, Fine Art Work Center, Provincetown, Woodstock School of Art and Manhattan Graphics Center. Kirk has exhibited his own prints widely including Footprint International, The Royal Scottish Academy, and the 3rd International Print Biennale, Newcastle, England.
