New Studio Project Update

January 7, 2019

Dear Guild Members, Friends, Supporters and Students,

This is a very exciting time at the Guild! With the New Year, we began the demolition and renovation of the upstairs gallery, storage room, bathroom and kitchen. When we are done, we’ll have an additional studio, new kitchen and bathroom!

For those of you wondering how we got to this point, here’s a little history. About eighteen months ago, we had a very small fire in the upstairs kitchen. No major damage, but enough to the appliances and cabinets to make us think about the upstairs space in general before we tackled the final kitchen renovation. The adjacent bathroom and storage room have been greatly underutilized and the gallery upstairs is not always rented.

We DO have a vibrant education program at the Guild, but can only offer one class at a time because we only have one studio. With the help of a local architect and builder friend, we created a plan to turn the storage area and gallery into a second studio. This past summer, we secured the necessary funding to do the project through grant monies. But with Festive Home 2018 on the calendar, we waited until the start of 2019 to begin.

The project is not large, nor is it complicated. Per our builder, the entire project should only take about 4 weeks to complete. In the interest of safety and expediency, we have opted to post-pone the start of our winter class schedule. All new classes will now begin the week of January 21st and run through their entirety. By then, most of the work should be complete and we should be well on our way to having our second studio, with a new kitchen and bathroom!

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding, and supporting this project. The Ridgefield Guild of Artists has offered art education for over 35 years and with the addition of a second studio, we will now be able to offer more class choices!
